A stunning collection by a talented photographer. Prepare for a journey not just to Africa but to an oasis of balance and beauty.

It’s not difficult to take a passable photograph in Africa, surely the most photogenic continent on earth. Yet Christopher Rimmer’s work captures southern Africa in a way that transcends the thousands of images produced each year.
His wildlife portraits have an epic quality, balancing beauty and form with the stark reality of daily survival. The photographer and his subject contemplate each other in a vast, unforgiving landscape. There is risk to this enterprise. The man with the camera is not at the top of the food chain out here.
Christopher’s studies of people are striking for the dignity and self-assurance of the subjects. These are not postcard Africans packaged for our consumption. These are individuals, each one with their own story, culture and history to share. They cajole, question and challenge our preconceived ideas. They look into the photographer even as he trains his lens upon them.
There are also traces of the artist’s personal journey. There is the profound hope that the place where his youthful imagination roamed free really does still exist. And it does in the mind’s eye of the man.
Christopher Rimmer knows Africa just as well as Africa knows him
